An absorbent article with a longitudinal axis has been patented. The article comprises a front portion with first and second ends and side edges. The article’s first and second lateral sections are releasably attached to the front portion and are joined to each other. Each of the first and second lateral sections have an outer edge. A crotch portion connects the front portion to the back and has a first and a second side edge. Each of the edges have an end point adjacent to the back portion. The end points contain a line drawn parallel to the longitudinal axis, at a maximum distance from the longitudinal axis and passes through the first and second side edges twice. The back portion is divided into a first and a second section and the first section is bounded by a first end. The second section is bounded by a line drawn parallel to the first and second end. A first second edge defines the first area, A1. A line drawn parallel to the first end intersects a pair of corners where the first and second side edges of the first section intersect with the first and second edges of the second section. The second end is parallel to the first end and intersects the end points where the first and second side edges of the crotch portion intersect with the first and second edges of the second section. The first section has a length, L2, measured perpendicularly from the first end to the line drawn parallel. The length L2 is equal to or greater than two inches, while the second section has a length, L3, measured perpendicularly from the line drawn parallel to the first to the second end. The length L3 is equal to or greater than about one inch. The second section has a second area A2 defined by a line drawn parallel to the first and second end and by a first second line. The first and second lines are drawn perpendicular to the second end at the end points and the first and second lines intersect with the parallel line. An absorbent portion is secured to one of the front, back or crotch portions and each of the outer edges of the first and second lateral sections are secured to the first and second side edges to form a pant-like article with a waist opening and a pair of leg openings. Waist Belt For Absorbent Garment: No. 6,500,163; Peter Rönnberg, Olle Carlbark and Björn Larsson, assignors to SCA Hygiene Products AB, Gothenburg, Sweden. Filed 12/7/01. Issued 12/31/02. A garment, comprising an absorbent section and a waist belt attached directly or indirectly to it, has been patented. The waist belt has two belt portions extending on either side of the absorbent section for securing around the garment wearer. The waist belt has a stiffness of 25-90g as measured by the modified version of test ASTM D 4032-82 Circular Bend Procedure.
